Nottoway County Booking Photos
Virginia law is favorable to public access for adult booking photographs, but that does not mean every jail photo appears online. Piedmont Regional Jail uses a JailTracker public roster, and research of the public app package found an offender image field plus an agency setting that can hide inmate images unless logged in. Because the rendered PRJ profile could not be inspected without CAPTCHA, public image display should be confirmed on the live roster or requested from the right record custodian.
A Nottoway County jail mugshot is a booking record, not a court conviction. It may be tied to an arrest that is later dismissed, amended, nolle prossed, acquitted, expunged, sealed, or resolved by conviction. The photo should be read with the current court record after arrest rather than as proof of final guilt.
Nottoway County Mugshot Lookup
The first online check is the PRJ Offender Lookup. PRJ states that the lookup searches a person's location if the person is incarcerated at PRJ and under PRJ custody. The public JailTracker app supports offender images in its model, but PRJ image visibility was not confirmed in the live public profile during research.
- Open the PRJ Offender Lookup page and allow JailTracker to load.
- Search by last name, then first name if needed.
- Complete CAPTCHA if shown.
- Open the offender detail or result view, if available.
- Look for a booking photo or image field, then note the booking number and date if no photo appears.
- Use PRJ records, PRJ FOIA contacts, or Nottoway County FOIA when a public request is needed.
The official PRJ offender lookup page is the source to check before relying on any private roster site.
The official page is important because it limits the search to PRJ custody and avoids unsupported claims about photo availability.
Nottoway County Mugshot Record Fields
A booking-photo search works best when the person can be matched to the correct booking record. The PRJ JailTracker model supports several fields that can help identify the right person even when a photo is hidden, suppressed, or not displayed publicly. Do not assume demographic fields are public unless the live profile shows them.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Offender image | JailTracker supports an image field, but PRJ public display was not confirmed. |
| Name | First, middle, last, and full-name fields supported by the model. |
| Booking number | Supported in the app model; useful for records requests. |
| Original booking date/time | Helps distinguish people with similar names. |
| Charges | Charge description and charge status fields may appear if enabled. |
| Bond and holds | Bond amount, bond type, and hold fields may explain why release has not occurred. |
| Release date/time | Can show that a person left custody even though a court case remains open. |
Nottoway County Mugshot Law
Virginia Code § 2.2-3706 requires public bodies engaged in criminal law-enforcement activities to provide adult arrestee photographs taken during initial intake and routine booking, subject to limits such as felony-investigation jeopardy. The same statute addresses adult arrest identity and charge-status information. Juvenile confidentiality, sealed records, expunged records, and criminal investigative file limits can still restrict access.
What is public: Adult routine booking photographs and adult arrest/charge-status information are generally requestable under Virginia law.
What is limited: Juvenile records, sealed or expunged records, some criminal investigative materials, and felony-investigation jeopardy situations may block or delay release.
Request Nottoway County Booking Photos
If a Nottoway County jail mugshot is not visible in the PRJ roster, collect the identifying data first. Useful details include the person's full name, booking number if visible, booking date, arresting agency, charge information, and court case number if a case has been opened. Then route the request to the office that has the record.
| Record Needed | Where to Ask | Contact Detail |
|---|---|---|
| PRJ booking photo or custody record | Piedmont Regional Jail records | (434) 392-1601, Records ext. 732; records fax (434) 392-5932. |
| PRJ FOIA request | PRJ FOIA contacts | Gloria Giles ext. 320 or Royal Eanes ext. 247. |
| Sheriff arrest record | Nottoway County Sheriff | (434) 645-9044 for arresting-agency or warrant questions. |
| County-held public records | Nottoway County FOIA officer | Andrea L. Kelly, akelly@nottoway.org. |
Nottoway County's FOIA page lists the county FOIA officer, response process, fees, and payment options.
The county FOIA source is useful when the record belongs to a county office rather than PRJ's regional jail authority.
Nottoway County Roster Photo Timing
Official research did not confirm how long PRJ keeps a mugshot visible on the public roster after release. JailTracker supports final release date/time and released-since settings, but that is not the same as a published retention rule for images. A person who bonded out, transferred, or completed a local hold may disappear from the active custody view before the court record is closed.
Important: A missing online mugshot does not prove no booking photo exists, and an online photo does not prove conviction.
Nottoway County Mugshot Removal
Mugshot removal should be handled through official records processes, not through commercial mugshot sites. Virginia expungement law appears in Chapter 23.1 of Title 19.2, including Virginia Code § 19.2-392.2. The pre-December 1, 2026 text allows petitions in non-conviction outcomes such as acquittal, nolle prosequi, or dismissal under stated conditions. Later text effective December 1, 2026 expands language for people arrested, charged, summonsed, or indicted and not ultimately convicted, subject to conditions.
Expungement or sealing is a court process. It does not guarantee that every jail, sheriff, search engine, or third-party copy changes instantly. Use the court order and contact the originating agency that controls the record. Court records after a jail arrest may need to be checked before requesting changes to a booking photo or related public record.
Booking Photos and Criminal History
A local booking photo is not the same as a state criminal-history photograph. Virginia Code § 19.2-390 covers fingerprint and photograph reporting to the Central Criminal Records Exchange for reportable offenses, warrants, dispositions, and correctional-status updates. Access to state criminal-history systems is different from access to a local booking photo held by PRJ or an arresting agency.
- Booking photo
- Taken during routine jail intake after arrest.
- Roster image
- Photo displayed by a public jail roster if the agency enables public image display.
- Criminal-history photo
- Photo tied to state reporting systems and not the same public access channel.
Federal and ICE Mugshots
Federal and immigration custody use different systems. PRJ may hold U.S. Marshal offenders under contract, but the BOP Inmate Locator is for federal inmates from 1982 to present and does not operate as a public mugshot gallery. Public BOP results show fields such as name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. ICE ODLS is also a locator, not a mugshot publication system.
For state prisoners at Nottoway Correctional Center or Nottoway Work Center, use the VADOC locator. VADOC state-prison custody is separate from Nottoway local jail custody and should not be searched through the PRJ roster unless the person is housed in a local or regional jail under VADOC authority.
Nottoway Jail Mugshot Context
A Nottoway County jail mugshot search is strongest when paired with the jail roster and court record. The roster may show current custody and booking data, while court records show whether the charge remains pending, was amended, was dismissed, or resulted in conviction. For current custody, use Nottoway County inmate records. For the court path, use court records after a jail arrest.
